Glamorous working gal…

This made me laugh. One should always put ones best foot forward whilst working on site.

Colour, chaos and then cohesion

I love this dining room. It is a very personal space and a representation of its obviously flamboyant owner Jonathan Adler, ceramicist. His partner, Simon Doonan has been immortalized on ‘Beautiful People’, so he’s pretty fabulous too. It is a glamorous space without bowing to anyone’s idea of fashion and the scale of the objects fit well within the room. It is a representation of the couple and what makes them happy. There are elements in this room that I admire but the thing that I can’t get out of my head, the thing that actually makes this space awesome in my opinion, are the trees in their wonderful bright planters. The beautifully scaled, leafy trees. I like them a lot and I’ve been racking my brain to work out where I could put one in my own home. It inspires me to want green in my living space, not just pretty orchids or cut flowers but big, fat, living leaves. I like the colour that they add and the life that they give to the rest of the room. I’m sure of course that this truly fabulous apartment is on the 90th floor of some equally fabulous Upper East Side building so the view isn’t quite the same as mine on my quarter acre block bound by camellias but it could work for me… I’ll make it work for me…

Wouldn't you love to be invited a dinner party here? If these walls could talk...

I may not have the fearlessness to pull this one off but I admire his flamboyance - very David Hicks

Yummy local talent

Bob Steiner, the man responsible for the proliferation of fantails in New Zealander’s homes, has produced a range of wonderfully coloured lampbases in super shapes. They kind of hark back to the 50′s like most things right now, but I think that they have longevity as with the right choice of shade they could transcend the modernist trend. I spotted these today at Stacks Furniture, beautifully arranged. You really have to see them in the flesh. There are three shapes – ‘Dalek Tall’ and ‘Short’ and the ‘Lotus’ in deep, textured glazes in six colourways. Very scrummy additions to our interior landscape!
