KD Furniture

I’ve been working on a line of outdoor furniture with Kerin Dunshea, my brother in law, who is a very talented carpenter and builder. The first part of the range to be ready for summer 2011 will include 4 outdoor bench designs, inspired by English country garden furniture. All of the benches will be painted in a palette of 12 beautiful colours that I have been working on with Resene in either a semi-gloss or a high gloss finish. The benches will come in lengths of 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8 meters. They are beautifully crafted in the traditional manner and they are incredibly sturdy.

I was drawn to design this type of backless bench as there are many villas and bungalows in New Zealand with shallow verandas that can’t accommodate large furniture. These verandas are inherently useful and they’re often located in view of the street. These benches offer seating, naturally, and they ‘dress’ the space with their colour and style. They will also sit beautifully in the garden – a punch of colour in amongst the greenery.

I will post more photographs of the first 4 designs and the colour palate in due course. But here is the first one to come off the drawing board.

Office Refurbishment

I have received the nicest referral letter from my Client Geoff Kenny of MTF Vehicle Finance. Geoff leased a building in Petone to set up his franchise of MTF in July with the intention of moving in at the end of August. As Geoff was going to be overseas for most of that time he hired me to design and project manage the fit out. His brief was to represent the MTF brand and their own corporate requirements, while keeping things masculine, welcoming and not too contemporary. There was a lot to be done in a short space of time: the building needed repainting inside and out, new carpet and vinyl laid, a new kitchen installed and interior walls built, all new bathroom fittings and plumbing, a new heat pump, office furniture to be sourced and upholstered and new planting outside. I’m pleased to report that it went off without a hitch and Geoff moved in in the 3rd week of August. Here is a flavour of the new office.

Fabulous photos of the deli

Kate MacPherson, photographer extraordinaire, has just photographed the deli. We are so pleased with the results. Kate has brought the little details that are so important to the design and our philosophy to life. We even had a couple of family shots and this one is my favorite. Check out my portfolio pages for more of Kate’s beautiful images and the Dunshea’s Deli website for the full set.
